Twitch has recently implemented 100 hours limit to saved Highlights starting on 19 April 2025. Since Twitch does not automatically save stream VODs on long term and they delete past stream videos after 7 days unless we put them on Highlights, I use the Highlights feature a lot to save the streams I enjoy for memories keepsake.
While I enjoy streaming using Twitch’s features such as channel points, alerts, and more, I had to opt to moving to save the VODs to YouTube so I can keep them around long term. There’s a way to do it without downloading and re-uploading hours worth of video manually, which I’ll go over on it soon!
Checking your highlights storage quota

For those who regularly use the Highlights feature, do check your Video Storage section to know how much limit left that you have! If you still have over the limit by April, Twitch will automatically delete some of the Highlights for you to reach back the limit. Here’s how to check it!
- Click on your profile icon on top right, go to Creator Dashboard.
- Select Video Producer.
- You should get a notification on the right side of your current storage.
NOTE: clips and past streams are not counted towards the quota, and past stream videos that are not saved as Highlights will be deleted after 7 days. You should save streams as Highlights soon after your stream ends so it won’t pass that deadline.
Connect your Twitch account to YouTube
While there are multiple ways to move your Highlight videos to YouTube such as downloading and reuploading manually, using other plugins, or using multistreaming tools like Restream, there is an easy way already available on Twitch itself.
First, you need to connect your YouTube account to Twitch:
- Click on the profile icon on top right, go to Settings.
- Go to Connections tab.
- Select Connect button next to YouTube and enter your YouTube channel login. It should show like the following screenshot with ‘Disconnect’ button and your YouTube channel link if it connects successfully.
NOTE: Use the Settings from the top right icon, NOT the Creator Dashboard settings since it’ll show other type of settings and you won’t find this connection one.

Exporting Twitch Videos to YouTube
Now you’ve connected your Twitch with YouTube account, let’s choose and export the videos you want to save to your YouTube channel.

- Go to your Creator Dashboard (can find by clicking top right profile icon)
- Select Video Producer.
- Click the three dots icon next to the video you want to save, then select Export.
NOTE: You can export any available past streams as well immediately as well, you don’t have to save it Highlight it first. - Check and change title, description, and video visibility as you want.
By default it’ll be saved as Private videos and won’t shown publicly in your YouTube channel, but you can just change it to Public when you save. You also have option to split the video into 15 minute segments.

Once you click Start Export, the process will begin automatically. You can also check your Creator Studio in YouTube to see the progress. For me, I chose to export like 10-20 videos at once then left them to go to sleep, and when I wake up in the morning it’s all done. You’ll also get an email notification once the export is done.
Note that when the videos are in YouTube they lose the saved thumbnails and you might get flagged for audio copyright that is stricter on YouTube compared to Twitch, so be sure to go through these after the videos are moved.
Also remember to delete the backed up Highlights after so they will free up your quota and Twitch won’t delete your favorite Highlights!
While I couldn’t find how to do a bulk export or select multiple videos at once, this has been helpful and smooth way for me to move my saved videos to YouTube. I also only used these steps on Twitch desktop website, and can’t find the option on the Twitch mobile app until the day this post is written.
I’ll keep things updated if I do figure out easier ways to do this. Hope for now this little guide can help someone out!
